Social Media for Everyone

Social media websites hold a very important place in people’s lives, allowing them to stay in touch, share photographs, explore interests, and write blogs or diary entries. Consumer brands took advantage of this new sector and started marketing products to their target audience via social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Shutterfly, WordPress, and Blogger.   Seeing consumer brands on these websites has become the norm with people “liking” their favorite brands on Facebook and “following” them on Twitter. Pinterest, one of the newest and fastest growing social media websites, has become another hub where companies can display their products for customers to buy or “repin” onto personalized dashboards. Every day, more companies are starting to utilize social media to engage with their customers on a regular basis.

Recently, even companies that don’t typically market to individual consumers have started to market their products on social media websites.  Social media has a lot to offer–even to these “old fashioned” companies. Customers and business owners are more comfortable when they purchase products that they have previously researched online. With “sharing” functionality, companies can easily engage with customers and prospective customers. More people are seeing what the company has to say and social media can also make the brand seem more human. Status updates, tweets, and posts are more interactive than traditional outbound, interruptive marketing, creating the opportunity for a real relationship with each person that comes in contact with the page.
