Environmental recycling is an important aspect of today’s society. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) describes recycling and its benefits by saying “Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products”.
 
Electronic recycling is a key part of environmental safety because electronic products are created from valuable resources that use energy while being manufactured. Such resources include plastics, metals and glass. Recycling these types of products saves natural resources and prevents greenhouse gas emissions and pollution from being released into the environment.

• Recycling one million laptops saves the energy equivalent to the electricity used by more than 3,500 US homes in a year.
• For every million cell phones we recycle, 35 thousand pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold, and 33 pounds of palladium can be recovered.
