Infographic: The Lifecycle of a Plastic Microbead




Researchers estimate that 8 trillion plastic microbeads are released into the waterways each day in the United States alone. At the current rate, it is forecast that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans.

Many global companies are taking a stand against plastic microbead pollution, including Unilever, Colgate-Palmolive, Procter and Gamble, and many others, who have pledged to stop using microbeads in their products. In fact, starting in 2017, the United States as a whole will prohibit any manufacturing or selling of products with plastic microbeads.
